Join Ascend at it’s next fundraising event, an Equinox Celebration with Alice DiMicele, taking place on March 24th at the North Fork Grange in Junction City, CA. Doors open at 7pm, music at 7:30pm. Alice DiMicele and her band “Force of Nature” celebrate the release of Alice’s new album “One With the Tide.” Force of Nature features Alice’s longtime bassist Rob Kohler and drummer Nick Kirby.
Alice DiMicele is a singer/songwriter and acoustic guitar player that seamlessly works jazz/blues phrasing and R&B and rock & roll rhythms into a broadened Folk/Roots/Americana sound she calls “Organic Acoustic Groove.” Whether playing solo or with her band, Alice brings her wide-ranging vocal prowess, humor, and distinctive guitar style to festival stages, theaters, clubs, and house concerts.
For over 30 years Alice has been a grassroots trailblazer in independent music. Bucking the advances of record labels early in her career–she has self-released 14 albums on her Alice Otter Music label including 2018’s “One With the Tide”. DiMicele has stayed true to herself and her mission: to create music that connects people and inspires them to take a stand for the earth and for justice in the world. Born and raised in New Jersey, and firmly transplanted since 1986 in the fertile Southern Oregon soil, DiMicele’s music encompasses both city savvy and country innocence.
Alice has played at many festivals including Strawberry Music Festival, Kate Wolf Music Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, Joshua Tree Music Festivals, Oregon Country Fair, Northwest String Summit and many, many more. She’s shared stages with some of music’s finest including some of her musical heroes like Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, JJ Cale, David Grisman Quintet, Steve Winwood, Ferron, Peter Rowan, Richie Havens, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and the list goes on. Bonnie Raitt said, “Alice’s music has that great combination of earthiness and groove that keeps it funky from the inside out. She’s for real.”
We’re excited to announce our upcoming event, “An Evening with Jim Reynolds”. Jim is a climber who just broke the speed record on October 21st, for climbing The Nose of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park with his climbing colleague, Brad Gobright. They completed the climb – that usually takes three to five days for non-speed climbers – in 2 hours, 19 minutes and 44 seconds! Jim will present on his experience and as an Ascend alumnus, we’re thrilled to host him!
The event takes place at the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center in Weaverville, CA on Thursday, January 25th at 6pm. After Jim’s presentation, there will be time for a Q&A. The event is free, but donations are accepted and there will be concessions and merchandise for sale – all proceeds will benefit Ascend Wilderness Experience’s 2018 backpack trips with local youth.

Ascend Wilderness Experience will be hosting a dinner and movie night featuring the documentary, “The Fourth Phase”. Inspired by the hydrological cycle, iconic snowboarder Travis Rice and friends embark on a multi-year mission to follow the North Pacific Gyre’s flow. As Rice and the crew experience the highs and lows of a journey unlike any previously attempted, cutting-edge cinematography captures some of the world’s most remote environments bringing breathtaking scenery and thrilling action to viewers worldwide. From the innovators of “Art in Flight” (2011), the latest film from Travis Rice, Brain Farm & Red Bull Media House.
The Fourth Phase will be shown on Friday May 12th at the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center in Weaverville. Dinner will start at 6pm and the movie at 7pm. Dinner will include pizza, sold by the slice, and choices of beverages. There is no cost to attend the film, however all donations will go to Ascend Wilderness Experience and will fund local youth participating in 5-day backpack trips into the Trinity Alps Wilderness this summer.

Ascend needs Wilderness Guides for our 2017 backpacking season. Must have experience with youth and the outdoors. Trips run between July 10th – August 18th. Make a difference to our youth by “changing the world, one backpack trip at a time”!

Join Ascend for a movie night fundraiser screening of “Paul’s Boots,” a beautiful, true story of a man who dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail. In the midst of his preparations, Paul died. His bereaved wife, M’Lynn, was inspired to seek the assistance of some hikers planning to trek the 2,190 miles, crossing 14 states ranging from Georgia to Maine, asking them to carry Paul’s boots the length of the trail.
“Paul’s Boots” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the Trinity Alps Performing Arts Center in Weaverville. There is no cost to attend, however all donations will go to Ascend Wilderness Experience and will fund local youth participating in five-day backpack trips into the Trinity Alps Wilderness this summer. Bake sale and beverage items will also be available for purchase to fund Ascend Wilderness Experience.
